Karanghake School - Providing opportunities for leadership, peer support & best efforts

House Groups

We have four house groups that students are assigned. Each house has two senior students as House leaders. Through out the week, students are awarded house points for good behaviour and displaying our NUGGETS values. Staff award house points and students can also recognise other students by giving them house points. House points are tallied up and the house of the week is awarded at assembly.

Points are also gained through sporting events and fun days and at the end of the year the House shield is presented to the house with the most points.

Student Council

Our senior students are given the opportunity to create more direct relationships with staff and listening to fellow students by presenting student initiatives. The council meet weekly with a teacher and help to organise fun events like wheels day, Pj day, fundraisers for charity. Council members learn to write and present proposals, work internally with staff at school and externally with community business owners.

Student Led Assembly and Prize Giving

Student leaders plan and set up the event of assembly each week, and act as the MC's. During assembly, they also award the "Fab Four" - recognition of fours students in assembly that are displaying NUGGETS values. Every week, the "Star of the Week" certificate is given to a member of each class by the teachers recognising achievement, improvement or displaying our values.

At the end of the year student leaders also MC the prize giving. They are able to display their leadership, confidence and comraderie in front of friends and family and their peers.
