Years 3-5
Mrs Povey
As at Feb 2025 - 24 students
This will be my first year teaching my own class. However, I have been at Karangahake School in a few different roles over the past 5 years. These include being a teacher aide, a relief teacher and now a full time classroom teacher. I am passionate about creating a supportive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and inspired. I enjoy helping tamariki discover their strengths, develop new skills, and become confident, independent learners. I have strong relationships with the learners in this class already which will help to make the transition a bit easier for all of us. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my whanau, going to the river with my dogs, and motorsports - anything to do with motocross and motoGP is the best!
This year, our focus will be on implementing the new structured literacy and maths programmes. These are designed to meet the needs of all learners and make learning more enjoyable and consistent. Alongside this I aim to incorporate as much science, arts, te reo, health and physical education as possible. To do this we will be exploring a variety of engaging topics, such as the formation of the natural world, space and Aotearoa history.
We will have plenty of hands-on activities to bring our learning to life. I believe in making learning as interactive and enjoyable as possible, so you can expect lots of exciting projects, class discussions, and real-world connections.
I also place a strong emphasis on social-emotional learning and developing a positive, respectful classroom environment. We will focus on key values such as kindness, perseverance, and respect. I am committed to supporting your child in building important life skills as well as academic ones.
